Process for the manufacture of clay-based absorbent granulates. This process is characterised in that from 5 to 20 % by weight (relative to dry clay) of cement or of lime and of water is added to wet clay, the mixture obtained is kneaded to obtain a dough, this dough is extruded in the form of sections, these sections are left to lie for a storage period of a number of hours, sufficient to allow the cement or the lime to set, and the sections are dried by being heated to a temperature of approximately 100 DEG C.
