PURPOSE:To shorten a time required until it is decided that focus detection is impossible by limiting the direction of low contrast scanning to one direction just after setting a lens on an initial stopping position. CONSTITUTION:When it is decided by a focus detection impossibility decision means 6 that the focus detection by a focus detection means 2 is impossible, lens scanning (low contrast scanning) that the position of a lens in which the focus detection can be possible is seeked is performed by performing the focus detection by the focus detection means 2 while driving the lens 1 by a lens driving means 4 under the control of a lens scanning control means 7. However, when it is decided by a lens position setting decision means 5 that the setting of lens position has been just performed, a direction control means 8 drives the lens only in one direction (feeding out direction) toward other terminating position (for instance, the closest position) until the focus detection can be possible. Thus, the time required until it is decided that the focus detection is impossible can be shortened. |
