PURPOSE: To measure the force of a valve rod accurately and precisely by using a sensor means fixed at a valve yoke. CONSTITUTION: A yoke distortion sensor 38 is fixed to a valve yoke 16 by mounting posts 62 and 64 and the polarity of a voltage generated by the sensor 38 and an output voltage are indicated by a voltage sensing meter 72. When a motor 26 operates and, for example, a valve rod 24 is moved downward by the rotation of a worm and a worm gear 30 and hence a valve gate 18 is engaged to a valve seat 20, the valve rod 24 stops. However, the work continues to rotate, moves in the direction of an axial line and pushes the spring pack 32, and then compresses it, thus rotating a gear 34, opening a torque switch and cutting power, and then stopping a motor 26. Until the valve rod 24 stops and the motor 26 stops, compression force 76 applied to the valve rod 24 is further increased and the compression force 76 generates an equal but opposite pull force shown by an arrow 78 at a yoke 16 so that the distortion of a yoke 16 is sensed by the sensor 38 and the output is indicated on the meter 72.
