The invention relates to an improved device for cutting the grass. It includes a motor 1, a drive component 12 and a component 13 for holding the cutting wire. This component, or the drive component, is arranged so as to retain an active part 7 of wire which extends radially beyond it and which is capable of cutting the grass when the device rotates at high speed. The wire in the reel is torn from the centre of the reel, passes into a passage 9 made in the central part of the bottom of the component 13 for holding the reel in order to join onto a member 16 for holding the active part 7 of wire. <IMAGE>
