摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal head having a uniform printing characteristic and a laterally symmetrical shape, by a method wherein a glaze layer is formed by printing within the surface of an insulated substrate, a heating resistance film, a common lead conductor and a discrete lead conductor are formed to be symmetrical laterally on the opposite sides of the glaze layer, and a protection film is formed for coating. CONSTITUTION:A belt-shaped glaze layer 1 is formed by printing and baking within the surface of an insulated substrate A. After a heating resistance film 2 is formed on the upper surface of the glaze layer 1, an electrode 3 for a lead, i.e. a common lead conductor 3a and a discrete lead conductor 3b, is formed on the opposite sides of the skirt part of the resistance film 2. The heating resistance film 2 and the electrodes 3a and 3b for leads are provided to be symmetrical laterally on the opposite sides of a virtual center C of the length of the belt-shaped glaze layer 1. A protection layer 4 is formed on the surfaces of the substrate A, the heating resistance film 2 and the electrodes for leads. By cutting along the C, a single article D of a thermal head that is a continuity of two laterally-symmetrical thermal heads 6 and 6a sharing the belt-shaped glaze layer 1 is obtained. The two thermal heads 6 and 6a are employed separately for attachment to a bidirectional printer.
