PURPOSE:To economically obtain an element applicable to diversified applications by using hexamethylene tetramine or hexamethylene tetramine deriv. as an optical material. CONSTITUTION:This optical material comprises using the hexamethylene tetramine or hexamethylene tetramine deriv. The hexamethylene tetramine has such chemical formula as expressed by the formula I and the hexamethylene tetramine deriv. is the deriv. in which at least one of hydrogen atoms is substd. by a substituent, like, for example, the formula II. The various substituents as expressed by the formula III are used for said substituent. In the formula III, n: 1-5 integer, m: 1-3 integer, R, R1, R2: alkyl group. The much higher nonlinear optical effect than the nonlinear optical effect of the nonlinear optical element formed by using the hexamethylene tetramine is obtd. with the nonlinear optical element formed by using such hexamethylene tetramine deriv. |
