PURPOSE:To designate color easily and accurately by editing an original picture data depending on color information read by a color read means. CONSTITUTION:A tip of a color designation input section 4 is in contact with the part of a picture 11 of an original 10 and the color of the picture 11 is read by a color reader 11 to apply color designation and the color information subject to color designation is stored in a color read memory 25. An original 10 is placed on an original platen glass 17 and an image reader section 16 reads the entire picture of the original 10 and stores it in a memory of a signal converter 24. The signal converter 24 uses the image reader section 16 to erase the picture of the color subject to designation with respect to the original picture data read by the image reader section 16 or erases a picture of a part except the designated color or applies edit such as conversion of the designated color into other color. Thus, the color designation is facilitated and mis-designation of color is prevented.
