The invention relates to a safety binding for a downhill ski, which is intended to hold the end of a boot. It comprises a base 4 securely connected to the ski, a body 5 which is movable vertically with respect to the base 4 about a transverse axis 6. A jaw 9 is articulated laterally with respect to the body 5. The binding comprises a device for compensating for a forward fall and a device for compensating for a rearward fall. It is characterised in that the energising ramp 49 of the rear compensating device is carried by the linking rod 58 which connects the front compensating device 55 to the energy spring 23. <IMAGE>
