Method for cutting spools of films made of thermoplastic consisting of a roll of turns on a cardboard or rigid plastic mandrel, characterised in that a) a spool of film, given a rotational movement of speed w1 is brought into contact, by any suitable means, with at least one metal milling cutter rotating in the opposite direction with a speed w2 which is greater than w1, the said milling cutter being provided with rough cutting and finishing teeth with alternate sections, b) the milling cutter is made to penetrate into the spool by any means exerting a force on the latter and/or on the milling cutter, c) the contact area between the spool and the milling cutter is cooled and lubricated by any suitable means. Appliance for implementing this method including a metal milling cutter, a means for cooling and lubricating the cutting area and a means for rotating the spool in the opposite direction to the milling cutter.
