The invention concerns a winch, in particular a backdrop draw winch, for theatrical stages, where the load is moved by several ropes running to a common rope drum. The rope drum is driven by a low-speed gearless hydraulic motor. The ropes running horizontally away from the drum pass over deflecting pulleys that are moved axially in step with the winding motion of the ropes, so as to guide the ropes cleanly. The winch according to this invention requires little space, runs very quietly, and can be installed in any position.
