A rice transplanter includes a returning mechanism (41) for seedbeds, and a transmission gear system (25). The returning mechanism comprises a reciprocating shaft (14) having spiral grooves (14a), a hollow shaft (17) rotatably supported to a motor housing (5), and a wedge member (19) moving along the spiral grooves according to the rotation of the hollow shaft. The transmission gear system comprises a shift gear (22), and gears (20,21) fitted to the hollow shaft. A releaseable stopper (27) cooperated with a cam (29) is prepared to prevent the gears from disengaging. A curb member (31) and an operating arm (30) for the stopper are provided for restraining the release operation of the stopper.
