PURPOSE:To provide a cosmetic base composed of a polymer of a polyoxyalkylenene glycol mono(meth)acrylate having a number-average molecular weight falling within a specific range, having moderate moisture retention and consistency and resistant to degradation with temperature and pH. CONSTITUTION:The objective cosmetic base is composed of a polyoxyalkylene glycol mono(meth)acrylate polymer composed of a recurring unit of formula (R is H or CH3; m is 2-4; n is 2-20) and having a number-average molecular weight of 1,000-100,000 (preferably 5,000-50,000). The above polymer is suitable as a cosmetic base since it has moderate moisture retention and consistency and is easily miscible with various cosmetic preparations. For example, it can be used as an emollient for skin cosmetic because of its unique light feeling and as a base for hair cosmetic owing to its excellent hair-setting power. It is compounded to a cosmetic preferably in an amount of 2-30wt.%. |
