PURPOSE:To shorten the response time and to widen the angle of visual field by inclining liquid crystal molecules at angles to surfaces of substrates holding a liquid crystal layer between themselves and inclining them at these angles in the same direction between said substrates and giving a negative dielectric anisotropy to liquid crystal materials. CONSTITUTION:With respect to a panel provided with a liquid crystal layer, plural substrates which are arranged to hold the liquid crystal layer between themselves and at least one of which is transparent, and a voltage applying means which is added to substrates to apply a voltage to the liquid crystal layer, liquid crystal molecules are inclined at pretilt angles to surfaces of substrates, which hold the liquid crystal layer between themselves, in the same direction in the electric field controlled birefringence system (DAP) and the dielectric anisotropy of liquid crystal materials is negative. Thus, a function to forcibly shorten the relax time is provided, and the angle of visual field is widened to obtain a satisfactory display liquid crystal panel. |
