Electrodes are subjected to repeated pulses with a sawtooth profile and potential allowed to fall at a rate of 1 V/s from -1.5 to 0 V and then immediately allowed to recover to -1.5 V. A method for cleaning electrodes, especially in measuring devices, comprises subjecting the electrodes and the incrustation on them to a cleaning pulse with a sawtooth profile and potential allowed to fall at a rate of 1 V/s from -1.5 to 0 V and then immediately allowed to recover to -1.5 V. The pulses are repeated until the incrustation is removed, and then the electrodes are normalised by allowing the pulse to fall to 0 V as a final potential.
