The invention relates to a self-adhesive noise damping element, particularly for motor vehicles, with a layer of damping material, an adhesive layer provided thereupon and a removable covering layer on the adhesive layer. Such known noise damping elements cause problems in the correction of their seating since once they adhere, they cannot really be pulled off again. The invention provides a remedy here, in that the covering layer can be pulled off in sections, so that first only relatively small positioning regions of the adhesive layer are freed. These permit simple correction of the seating; once this is achieved, the remaining regions of the covering layer are pulled off and the element remains adhered. In the positioning regions, the adhesive layer can comprise, instead of the normal fixing adhesive, optionally an assembly adhesive with lower adhesive strength at least initially.
