An apparatus and a method for sharing inter-home contents by using a home network device are provided to access a remote storage, upload the contents, extract the meta data of the contents, and transmit or receive a notification message including the shared information of the uploaded contents, thereby enabling a wide range of users to share digital media contents more easily. An apparatus for sharing inter-home contents includes a home network protocol stack(310), a remote storage controller(330), and a message controller(320). The home network protocol stack communicates with a home network device according to a home network protocol. The remote storage controller controls to receive a sharing request for predetermined contents from the home network device through the home network protocol stack, access a remote storage to upload the contents, and extract the metadata of the contents. The message controller controls a notification message including the shared information of the uploaded contents to be transmitted or received.
