The resilient diaphragm membrane is interposed in a chamber to form a first chamber section for containing pumped liquid and a second chamber section for containing hydraulic pumping fluid. The second chamber section has a contoured surface with a narrowed inlet aperture sized to snugly accept a diaphragm stop washer. The diaphragm stop washer and the diaphragm membrane are secured together on a stem and are separated by a circular reed valve member which contacts the contoured chamber surface in sealing relationship whenever the stop washer is seated within the narrowed aperture.
