A plastic foam flexibilization appts. has four sets of foam engaging belts. The foam is introduced into the machine between first and second sets of opposed belts (54,74), and then conveyed to third and fourth sets of opposed belts (56,75). The first and third sets of belts are generally coplanar, and the adjacent portions of them are interdigitated. The second and fourth sets of belts are generally coplanar, and the adjacent portions of them are also interdigitated. A drive means drives the belts wherein the first and second sets of belts travel at a surface speed greater than that of the third and fourth sets of belts.
