A process for preparing azatricycloalkene compounds of formula: <IMAGE> where R1 is hydroxy or protected hydroxy, R2 is hydrogen, hydroxy or protected hydroxy, R3 is methyl, ethyl, propyl or allyl, n is a whole number 1 or 2, and the symbol comprising a solid line and a dotted line is a single bond or a double bond; with the exception of the compound I in which R1 and R2 are each a hydroxy, R3 is methyl, ethyl or allyl, n is a whole number 2 and the symbol comprising a solid line and a dotted line is a single bond, and the compound I in which R1 and R2 are each a hydroxy, R3 is allyl, n is a whole number 1 and the symbol comprising the solid line and the dotted line is a single bond; and salts of the said compounds of formula I. The compounds obtained are useful as active drug ingredients for treating or impeding resistance to transplants, autoimmune diseases and infectious diseases.
