Date Apr. 9, 1987.Process for the production of cycloalkanecarboxylic acids of general Formula I <IMAGE> (I) wherein n means the number 1 or 2, R1 and R3 are alkyl groups of 1-4 carbon atoms, and R2 and R4 symbolize hydrogen atoms or alkyl groups of 1-4 carbon atoms, characterized by reacting a compound of general Formula II X-CR1R2-(CH2)n-CH2-CR3R4-X'(II), wherein n, R1, R2, R3 and R4 have the meanings given above and X and X' mean a hydroxy group, a chlorine atom, a bromine atom, an alkylsulfonyloxy residue, or an arylsulfonyloxy residue, with 1,1-dichloroethylene; splitting off hydrogen chloride from the thus-obtained compounds of general Formula III X-CR1R2-(CH2)n-CH2-CR3R4-CH2-CCl2X(III), wherein n, X, X', R1, R2, R3 and R4 have the meanings given above; and cyclizing and hydrolyzing, by means of acids, the thus-prepared compounds of general Formula IV X-CR1R2-(CH2)n-CH2-CR3R4-CY=CZX'(IV), wherein n, X, X', R1, R2, R3 and R4 have the meanings given above, and Y and Z jointly represent a carbon-to-carbon bond or mean a hydrogen atom and a chlorine atom.
