PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable an image region be divided without giving rise to an adverse effect due to the occurrence of a boundary noise region, even when a camera is panned or a subject moves during photographing.SOLUTION: A subject analysis unit 203 is provided with a histogram analysis unit 206 for generating, with respect to an image signal, a histogram of any component and dividing it into a mountain-shaped distribution range, and a region splitting unit 207 for splitting the image signal into a plurality of image regions on the basis of the result of division by the histogram analysis unit 206. If, with respect to each image region split by the region splitting unit 207, the value of the component in a region of interest is an intermediate value of the component in adjacent regions located on both sides of, and constituting a pair with, the region of interest, or if a correlation with the past result of splitting regions a prescribed number of times is small, a noise region is assumed, and boundary noise processing is carried out in which the region of interest assumed to be a noise region is integrated with an adjacent region having, for example, a component close to that of the region of interest. |
