PURPOSE:To simplify the constitution of the navigation assisting device by obtaining a steering direction by using the storage contents of a display memory which displays a course, etc. CONSTITUTION:The scheduled course display memory 7 stores display data on a scheduled course. A position measuring instrument 1 measures the current position of its ship and a bow azimuth measuring means 2 measures the current azimuth. Then a detection line generating means 3 generates two right and left symmetrical detection lines from nearby its ship position toward the blow and right and left detection line memories 4 and 5 store the two generated detection lines. Further, overlap detecting means A1, A2, and A3 detect overlaps of storage contents between the scheduled course display memory 7 and detection line memories 4 and 5. The steering direction is obtained from the detection results to assist the navigation. |
