In order to achieve high efficiency of the commutating poles (interpoles, compoles) (2), to correct for the armature reaction and to prevent demagnetisation of the magnet segments (1), a two-piece commutating pole compensation winding is proposed for each commutating pole, which winding consists of commutating pole compensation winding halves (3a and 3b) and are each arranged with one side of the winding in slots (4) in the region of the main pole fields in the magnetic return path part, the other side of the winding of the commutating pole compensation winding halves (3a and 3b) being arranged jointly in a slot (5) in the pole centre of the commutating poles (2). Suitable fastening means are provided in the intermediate spaces (6) for mechanical fastening of the magnet segments (1), the commutating poles (2) in this case being used as an opposing bearing (abutment). <IMAGE>
