A high-speed floating point arithmetic unit (100) including a data memory (3) for storing input command blocks has an operating unit (10) for high-speed operation according to a command block to store again the results of operation in the data memory (3). A host processor (200) supplies command blocks to the high-speed floating point arithmetic unit (100) to read the operation data. A number of command blocks are stored in the regions of the data memory (3) designated by the host processor (200). Each command block includes the information on that region of data memory (3) which stores the next command blocks to be executed. The operating unit (10) makes reference to this information to successively perform the operation based on the stored command blocks.
