The invention starts from a process for safeguarding the mould on injection moulding or diecasting machines against movement of the mould parts into the moulding position while moulded parts or foreign bodies are still in the mould region or moulding region, at least one arrangement comprising sensor and receiver being provided for generating a light beam passing through the mould region or moulding region and this arrangement being in effective electrical connection with a control for stopping or enabling the movement of the mould part or mould parts into the moulding position. To ensure automatic compensation of the malfunction as a result of dirt and/or temperature change, and to provide a compensation for changes of distance and changes of adjustment on mould exchange, it is provided that the output voltage of the receiver is kept at an adjustable, constant value by amplification and that the response-threshold voltage of the arrangement, below which the stopping of movement (4) of a mould or of mould parts (3) takes place, is chosen so as to be only slightly smaller than the amplified output voltage of the receiver. The invention also relates to an arrangement for carrying out said process. <IMAGE>
