To prevent a burr from being formed in the casting of ceramic port liners in cylinder heads of reciprocating piston engines in the transition region between the end face of the port liner and the cylinder head material, it is proposed according to the invention that the port liner be chamfered on its end face to give only a small remaining proportion of the end face in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the port liner. This proportion of the end face is then covered by the core material so that on cutting free the chamfered part of the end face the whole proportion of the end face lying in the plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis is never exposed. This reliably prevents a burr or a runner head as a cross-sectional constriction in this region.
