PURPOSE:To facilitate the exchange of an optical attenuating part by forming the titled attenuator into the structure to allow insertion of a sleeve holding the optical attenuating part into an optical adapter housing from one end thereof. CONSTITUTION:This optical attenuator is constituted of a lens 5 formed with an optical attenuating film 4 to serve as the optical attenuating part, the split sleeve 6 which holds the lens 5, the optical adapter housing 7 which holds the sleeve 6 and a housing member 8 which is fitted and fixed into the housing 7. The lens 5 is a spherical or a spherical single lens which reflects or absorbs light and is so formed that a desired quantity of attenuation is obtd. by the metallic film on the surface thereof according to the thickness of the film 4. The attenuator is made into the structure to allow the exchange of the sleeve 6 holding the lens 6 by removing the member 8. The quantity of the light attenuation is, therefore, changeable in the state of connecting an optical connector to one side. |
