The fuel pump (16) draws fuel from the tank via a filter (24) and a shaped pipe (14), with a air venting connection (28) at the highest point. The air venting pipe leads to a non-return valve (32), which feeds any vapour bubbles back into the tank. An alternative design has the return fuel feed driving a venturi pump, which vents the gas bubbles from the collecting duct and enables the fuel pump to deliver fuel without any bubbles.
