When configured from metal or plastic, the dowel system is intended to produce frictionally locking connections. If heat-resistant connections are required, the metal-dowel system is necessary. The number of disc units (2 discs in each case) is decisive for determining the withdrawal forces. By empirical tests with various materials, the maximum contact-pressure force onto the bore walls can be determined. The production of the contact-pressure force can be controlled by a torque wrench.
