Automatic portable labelling machine for affixing labels 7, evenly distributed on a strip 5 in a reel, onto articles, and comprising, mounted on a reinforcement plate 1, a feeler arm 9 which follows the strip and which tilts about a spindle 11, a drum 21 for driving the strip, set in rotation by a motor device 37, means 47 for controlling the motor device which are associated with the feeler arm and dependent upon it, the arm 9 serving for detecting each of the articles and for giving rise to their labelling, the motor device being constituted by a ratchet wheel 37 which directly drives the drum 21 in rotation, step by step. <IMAGE>
