PURPOSE: To obtain a modified surface describable with a pancile or an ink by applying a water-soluble polymer selected from polysaccharides, aliphatic derivatives of polysaccharides, PVA, etc., having a high molecular weight and insolubilizing by irradiation of a light. CONSTITUTION: This coating composition containing 0.1-5 wt.% of a water- insoluble polymer having (1-500)×10<4> molecular weight and insolubilizing by irradiation of a light and selected from polysaccharides, aliphatic derivatives of polysaccharides, PVA, polyacrylic acid, pectin, polyethylene oxide, etc., and preferably 1 wt.% of a wearing agent such as silica having an ultraviolet ray- transmissivity is applied to the surface of a synthetic fibrous sheet, e.g. a spun bond nonwoven cloth comprising e.g. polyethylene and a water-insoluble coated material describable with a pencil, an ink pen, etc., is formed to modify the surface of the sheet material.
