The device consists of a diaphragm - carrying ring fixed to a traction unit which moves the ring in direction of advance of the sausage, with the diaphragm pushing the rear end of the sausage, which drags behind it an empty length of casing from the filler tube. - The traction unit then stops, allowing closing and/or tying of the empty casing, after which it returns to its original position.
