The invention relates to a process for the preparation of hydrophilic, film-form polyacetylene by modification of film-form polyacetylene whose proportion of sp<3>-hybridised carbon atoms in the polyacetylene is less than 0.5 mol % based on the total carbon content of the polyacetylene, characterised in that the film-form polyacetylene is first reacted with chlorosulphonyl isocyanate, and the resultant product is then hydrolysed by means of aqueous base.
