In accordance with this invention, there are provided 5'-deoxy-5'-substituted adenosines having the formula <IMAGE> (I) wherein X is a member selected from the group consisting of NH, NCH3, S, or <IMAGE> n is an integer from 2-4; and Z is a member selected from the group consisting of: <IMAGE> <IMAGE> provided that when X is NH, S or CH3-S (+), then Z is not ONH2. These compounds show activity as inhibitors of AdoMet-DC.
