PURPOSE:To quickly start video playing by immediately reading out index information from a lead-in area in a 2nd area at the time of detecting the specification of playing only for the 2nd area, and at the time of ending the playing, stopping a pickup on a position corresponding to the lead-in area of the 2nd area. CONSTITUTION:When the specification of playing only in the 2nd area (video area) of a CDV disk 1 is detected, the index information is immediately read out from the lead-in area in the 2nd area without reading out index information from the lead-in area of a 1st area (CD area), and at the time of ending the playing of the 2nd area, the pickup is stopped on the position corresponding to the lead-in area of the 2nd area. Thereby, specified information is supplied to a system controller 13 in accordance with the depression of an area specification key 19. In the system controller 13, a CPU processes a signal inputted in accordance with a program previously stored in a ROM and controls respective parts such as a driving circuit for driving a spindle motor 2, a driving circuit 16 for driving a slider motor 5 and a display part 17.
