PURPOSE:To attain momentary conformity to the required action in a burglar- proof monitor camera or the like by adding a signal of a specific number of a relevant video camera to a video signal and displaying the video image monitored at present and its camera number on a monitor. CONSTITUTION:In a monitoring a video image picked up by a video camera, a pulse from a vertical direction timing generating circuit 5 and a horizontal direction timing generating circuit 6 is used to convert a number data latched by a camera number output 9 into a character signal of a serial data in the timing of a prescribed display location on a monitor screen. Then output pulses of the circuits 5, 6 are made variable to vary the timing optionally. Then the obtained character signal is amplified (10), mixed (11) with a video image signal and the result is outputted as the camera video image signal. The video image signal is used to latch the number data from a memory set by a camera number setting device 1 on a prescribed location of the screen of the monitor.
