PURPOSE:To record a chrominance signal with high fidelity by extracting R, B and G signals in each field or in each frame, forming a time division multiplex signal and intermittently transmitting respective chrominance signals. CONSTITUTION:A color camera 1 is provided with a three-color separation filter 2, a R image pickup tube 3, a G image pickup tube 4, and a B image pickup tube 5 to generate R, G and B signals. On the other hand, R, G and B identification signal adding circuits 6-8 are connected to respective image pickup tubes 3-5 to add R, G and B identification signals SR, SG, SB to prescribed positions determined based upon a synchronizing signal outputted from a synchronizing signal generator 9. A time division multiplexing switch 10 outputs a time division multiplex signal. A switch control circuit 11 switches the contact points (a)-(c) of the switch 10 in each frame. Thereby, the R, G and B signals corresponding to only one frame is transmitted during the period of three frames and the signals corresponding to residual two frames are canceled. Consequently, a chrominance signal can be recorded by a VTR 13 at three times the frequency band width of a general VTR.
