If rod-shaped workpieces are stored in a container as a workpiece bundle by means of belts or straps which are wrapped around the workpieces, the intention is for the belts or straps to be able to be pulled out again from below the workpieces in a simple manner on completion of the storage process. When the container is unloaded, the opposite process is to be carried out, namely wrapping the workpieces with the belts or straps, likewise with the least effort. The stored workpieces lie freely in the region of their ends relative to the container bottom and container side walls in the container for rod-shaped workpieces.
