PURPOSE:To facilitate extruding work and to improve the surface quality of an extruded product by plating the metallic surface directly or through a specific metallic layer with Cu film to make a compound billet when hydrostatic pressure extruding work is carried out to a hard-to-work metallic billet. CONSTITUTION:When hydrostatic pressure extruding work is carried out to the hard-to-work alloy billet such as Zr alloy, the surface quality of the extruded product is often deteriorated by seizure to a die to lower the product value. This phenomenon can be prevented by plating the surface of a Zr alloy billet 1 with a Cu or a Cu alloy layer 2 in >=10mum thickness. Or, the part between a Zn alloy billet 1 and a Cu or a Cu-alloy plated layer 2a is plated with an intermediate layer 2b in >=5mum thickness, of metals or an alloy by them having a high affinity for metals such as Sn, Zn, Ni or an alloy by them. A compound billet easy of hydrostatic pressure extruding work is obtained and the intermediate alloy layer 2b and Cu alloy layer 2a are removed from the surface of the extruded article to easily obtain an extruded article having an excellent surface by Zn alloy.
