PURPOSE:To provide a nonmagnetic roll having high mechanical strength and stress corrosion cracking resistance and capable of applying strong electromagnetic stirring force to a slab by using steel contg. C, Si, sol. Al, Mn, Cr, Ni, Cu and N restricted to specified concns. CONSTITUTION:This nonmagnetic roll is formed from a steel contg. <=0.15% C, <=1.0% Si, <=0.050% sol. Al, 17.0-25.0% Mn, 6.0-11.5% Cr, <=3.0% Ni, <=3.0% Cu (Ni+Cu=3.0%) and 0.05-0.25% N. It is manufactured by not working said steel at >=60% reduction of area or further heat treating it at >=900 deg.C. This nonmagnetic roll has sufficient strength and toughness as a support roll, deteriorates hardly the toughness during use, and has very low permeability. Accordingly, a slab of superior internal quality is obtd. by means of the roll. |
