PURPOSE:To achieve a higher accuracy and responsiveness of a time window type vehicle speed detection system, by providing a vehicle speed sensor, a plural of number of pulse measuring means, a vehicle speed computing means and a reset timing control means. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of number of pulse measuring means counts the number of pulses inputted within a fixed time from a vehicle speed sensor which generates a pulse signal synchronizing the rotation of propulsion shaft and is reset as each fixed time passes. A vehicle speed computing means computes a vehicle speed based on counts thus far obtained when the number of pulse measuring means are reset. Moreover, a reset timing control means controls reset timing of the number of pulse measuring means to be equal in the interval by shifting them therebetween. With such an arrangement, a larger reset interval is provided individually for the number of pulse measuring means to achieve higher revolutions in the detection of a vehicle speed thereby enabling highly accurate detection of vehicle speed. A vehicle speed detection interval is made shorter than each gate time by shifting the reset timings of the number of pulse measuring means to be equal in the interval thereby achieving a higher responsiveness in the detection of vehicle speed.
