PURPOSE:To suppress a decrease in C/N with an increase in recording density by executing recording in such a manner that a recording region widens in the direction perpendicular to the scanning direction of a light beam. CONSTITUTION:The recording is so executed that the recording region is wider in the direction perpendicular to the scanning direction than in said direction in a method for recording information by scanning the light beam while projecting the beam on an optical recording medium. Such recording can be executed simply by using the elliptical beam; for example, a method of elongating the region in the direction perpendicular to the advancing direction of the beam by using a beam shaping prism or utilizing the wider side of a semiconductor laser can be used. The excellent C/N is thereby obtd. even if the recording density is increased.
