PURPOSE:To simplify crowning operation by movably mounting a bending die, fitting a crowning rod on a bending die holder movably in an axial direction and adjusting the amount of projection of the crowning rod. CONSTITUTION:A rod of a liquid pressure cylinder 13 is projected and the bending die 7 is moved slantwise forward so that the crowning rod does not come into contact with the bending die 7. A driving shaft 25 is rotated to adjust the movement of the crowning rod 16 according to a sheet material W. When the rod is backed, the bending die 7 is brought by the force of a coned disk spring 11 into contact with the crowning rod 16 to obtain a desired crown state. Thereafter, the sheet material W is held between a lower die 3 and an upper die 4, it is pushed upward by the bending die to bend the sheet material W.
