PRODUCTION OF IMPACT RESISTANT RESIN

PURPOSE:To continuously produce the titled resin having excellent impact resistance and surface gloss, by refluxing a polymerization liquid to a mixing tank placed between a raw material tank and a polymerizer under a specific condition in the polymerization of a monovinyl aromatic compound in the presence of a diene polymer. CONSTITUTION:An impact-resistant resin is produced by polymerizing a monovinyl aromatic monomer (hereinafter called monomer) in the presence of a diene polymer. In the above process, a mixed solution of the diene polymer and the monomer is continuously supplied through a mixing vessel 2 to a 1st polymerizer 3 and is polymerized to attain a monomer conversion of 15-30% in the 1st polymerizer. Thereafter, the polymerization is continued in a manner so as to give a monomer conversion of <=70% in a 2nd polymerizer 4 connected to the 1st polymerizer 3 or in polymerizers following the 2nd polymerizer 4. A part of the polymerized liquid having a conversion of <=70% is recycled to the mixing vessel 2 in such a manner as to give a resin content of 3-15wt.% in the effluent at the outlet of the mixer 2.
