摘要 PURPOSE:To conduct preheating before recording is actually carried out, by providing a means which preheats a recording medium or a thermal transfer medium by a first heating resistor alignment disposed substantially parallel to a second heating resistor alignment at a fixed interval. CONSTITUTION:A thermal head 104 consists of a dot forming means provided with image forming heating resistor alignments 3, 4 on the surface of a ceramic substrate 2. The heating resistor alignments 3, 4 are respectively composed of N-heating resistors 3-1-3-N, 4-1-4-N, and each of the heating resistors is connected to a common electrode 5. A recording action with preheating is carried out as follows. A print data is outputted to the heating recording resistor alignment 4, a thermal head is driven for a time shorter than in a normal recording, a carriage is moved by the amount of distance between the heating resistor alignments 3, 4, the print data is outputted to the heating resistor alignment 3, and the thermal head is driven for a time shorter than in the normal printing. In this manner, a thermal transfer medium or a recording medium can be preheated, which reduces electric power to be supplied to the thermal head.
