PURPOSE:To obtain excellent hydro-extraction and water retention and at the same time prevent polymeric water absorbing agent from shifting and falling by a method wherein the polymeric water absorbing agent is thermally welded to a sheet-shaped nonwoven fabric. CONSTITUTION:A split yarn, which consists of an outer layer made of a low melting resin layer 9 and an inner layer made of a high melting resin layer 8, is produced out of multi-layer films consisting of two layers or more of thermoplastic resin having different melting points. A water absorbing split yarn 7 is produced by adding and bonding polymeric water absorbing agent 10 to said split yarn by heating the split yarn up to nearly the melting point of the low melting resin. The resultant split yarn is turned into short fibers in order to turn to webs. A sheet-shaped nonwoven fabric 3 is produced by hot-pressing the webs. Thermoplastic resin 5 is laminated to one side of the fabric 3, on the other side of which wetting agent 6 is applied and, after that, a water permeable film 2 is placed and heat-sealed. The split yarn is produced by slitting a multi-layer film which is stretched, and splitting with splitting rolls or the like.
