<p>A method of extruding liposomes useful for administering drugs comprising extruding liposomal material through a frit to produce lipsomes of uniform size. Apparatus for extrusion comprises a feed reservoir (9) for liposomal material with a capped access port (12). Reservoir (9) is connected through line (14) to pump (16) leading through line (18) to frit (1), positioned in-line. Liposome material pumped through the frit (1) passes through line (21), through 3-way valve (23) and is received into collection vessel (22). Line (24) entering reservoir (9) may be used to degas or pressurize the liposomal material or direct a particular gas, such as nitrogen, thereto. Return line (25) from 3-way valve (23) permits recycle of extruded material. External pumping of feedstock from reservoir (9) by external pumping device (27) and first and second two-way valves (26, 28) deliver feedstock to pump (16).</p> |
