PURPOSE:To effectively maintain a reaction liquid at a constant temp. by using an inert liquid consisting of a fluorine hydrocarbon as a constant-temp. medium. CONSTITUTION:A reaction tube 1a housing the reaction liquid 1c is maintained at the prescribed constant temp. by the circulating constant-temp. medium 1d. Light is projected from a light source 8a to the tube 1a and the light transmitted therethrough is analyzed, by which the progression degree of the liquid 1c is optically measured. The non. aq. inert liquid consisting of the fluorine hydrocarbon is used as the constant-temp. medium 1d of this time, by which the exact measurement is permitted, since there is no propagation of microorganisms. The surface tension is small and, therefore, such bubbles which affect the photometry no longer exist in the liquid and further, the vapor pressure is nearly zero in the use condition. The need for replenishing the medium is thereby eliminated and the liquid 1c is effectively maintained at the constant temp.
