PURPOSE:To obtain a high-strength Al-based composite conductive wire having properties equal to those of a conventional high-purity Al-alloy wire and remarkably improved in corrosion resistance, by coating the peripheral surface of a core material composed of an Al alloy containing respectively prescribed amounts of Mg, Si, Fe, and Cu with high-purity Al in the prescribed coating ratio or below. CONSTITUTION:An Al alloy containing, by weight, 0.5-1.4% Mg, 0.5-1.4% Si, 0.15-0.6% Fe, and 0.05-2.0% Cu is used as a core material, and the peripheral surface of this core material is coated with high-purity Al of >=99.0% purity in <=20% coating ratio so as to be formed into a high-strength conductive Al composite wire. This Al composite wire is manufactured by heating the core material consisting of an Al alloy with the above composition so that material temp. after extrusion becomes >=400 deg.C, by subjecting the peripheral surface of the above core material after heating to continuous extrusion coating with high- purity Al in the above-mentioned coating ratio, by applying water hardening to the above without delay so as to prepare a composite rough drawing wire, and then by subjecting this rough drawing wire to aging treatment at 150-250 deg.C, to wire drawing at >=60% reduction in area, and further to heat treatment at 100-180 deg.C. In this way, the desired Al-alloy composite wire can be obtained.
