PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound in high purity with simple procedure and easy recovery and reuse of solvent, by subjecting the titled compound to liquid chromatography using a column packing agent consisting of a polymer gel having methyl group as a functional group and using a specific elutant. CONSTITUTION:A highly unsaturated long-chain fatty acid alkyl ester (especially existing in fish oil or vegetable oil) is separated and purified by liquid chromatography using a polymer gel having methyl functional group (e.g. polyvinyl acetate or polymethyl methacrylate) as a column packing agent and using a solvent having lower polarity than the packing agent (e.g. n-pentane, n-hexane or n-octane) as an elutant. The amount of separated ester per one batch can be increased by this process.
